Michael and Rafe Bird are a writer/director duo with four shorts under their belts who have garnered a number of awards and nominations from a range of festivals throughout the UK, including the BIFA accredited Beeston Film Festival and the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival. Currently working on two further shorts, Are You Still Watching? and Lazar.

In the late 16th century, a travelling troubadour seeking fame and fortune is penning a song about a local outlaw, until he is confronted with the truth behind his words… and woodnymphs?!
With Lazar, we wanted to write a short film that is rich in narrative, substance and style – as well as a film proudly rooted in its origin here in the East Midlands.
As creators, it is important to question what our motivations are, and the value system they uphold. When we first meet our protagonist, he prioritises entertainment and adulation over all else. Through an unlikely friendship, the consequences of rumours and unfounded tales are revealed to him, demonstrating the importance of integrity, and that every story has a meaning.
A collaboration between Foot in the Door UK and Bird Bros. Lazar is currently in post production, slated for festival release in 2025.
